Message from the President
The Catholic University of Peru is pleased to host the 22nd Annual General Meeting of the Society of Mining Professors. In this occasion, the meeting will take place in September 2011 in conjunction with the 30th. Peruvian Mining Convention, one of the biggest mining events in the world which takes place every two years. At this moment, the official site of the convention which is the city of Arequipa is being reconsidered, the event might move to the northern city of Trujillo or to the capital city of Lima due to logistic problems with the spectacular growth of the convention.
Peru is an important mining country ranking in the world as first producer of silver, second in copper, third in zinc and tin, fourth in lead and fifth in gold. Presently it leads the annual world investment in mineral exploration in Latin America, a region which accounts for 25% of the worlds annual investment in mining. World class mines like Yanacocha, Antamina, Cerro Verde and others operate in the country. The country is also known for its tourist potential with world wonders like the ancient Inca city of Macchu Picchu or the exuberant Amazon jungle.
We plan a one week intensive meeting that will allow you to share experiences with our colleagues, attend interesting conferences, visit the extraordinary mining exhibition with over 1000 booths showing the latest technology in mining, participate in field trips to world class mining operations, enjoy Peru worlds recognized gastronomy and if time allows for you to stay longer, visit attractive tourist sites.
